This is a structured six week workshop giving you the key and fundamental skills in digital photography. For those of you who own not only DSLR Cameras but any camera with manual settings, this workshop will introduce you to the key skills needed to take fantastic photographs.

These practical sessions take place in small groups (to ensure personal feedback) for 90 minutes each week and include assignments for you to take away with you and practice at home.


What to expect from the workshops


-Understanding your camera's settings and functions - so you'll never have to rely on the auto button again!

-Composition is key! So you'll get your creative juices flowing and learn lots of facts and hints to help you set up and take that professional looking shot.

-Understanding the importance of light and how to use it effectively and to your advantage when photographing.

-Editing. There are lots of programs you can buy to edit on these days and this course will help you get started on the basics of achieving fantastic effects on your photographs.

-Learning smart. You'll be shown lots of samples of great work and this will help you work out just what you want to achieve with your photography.

-Flexible focus. Each training group has different needs so each session will emphasize more heavily around what you want to learn without loosing the bigger picture.


What will I get out of this course?


You’ll have much stronger knowledge of the do’s and don’ts when taking creative shots using the manual settings and understand the relationship of the “exposure triangle”.

-You’ll understand the principles of composition and how to apply them to photographs you take in the future

-You’ll have a much deeper awareness of light and how it behaves to help you make better and more accurate creative photographs.

-You'll have built confidence in basic editing as well as be able to critique photographs enabling you with skills to develop finer attention to detail thus create greater results.

-You'll be the proud owner of some fantastic photographs ready to print off and show to family and friends.

- You will meet other local people that share a common passion in photography, that will develop into new friendships and enrich your lives.

Getting to know your camera pt 1:
-Metering the light
-Aperture setting
-Understanding Depth of Field
-Relationship between Aperture and Exposure (ISO)

Session 3
Getting to know your camera pt 2:
-Shutter speed setting
-The relationship between aperture and shutter speed
-Freezing the movement and deliberate blur

Session 4
Elements of composition:
-Space in photographs, frames within frames
-Leading lines,
-Colour and texture
-Backgrounds
-Distractions
-The Story
-Rule of thirds
-Negative space

Session 5
Taking portrait pictures:
-Good and bad lighting
-Best kit to use
-Flattering poses
-Keep it reel and fun

Session 6
Editing and Critique:
-What to look for to improve an image
-Crop for effect
-Where is the image going to live
-The Basics of Photoshop
